| Catherine Marie Boyer Cathy studied art at University of California, Santa Barbara and after earning a Bachelor’s Degree in Social Science from San Jose State University advanced her art interest by studying evenings while employed in graphic design at local computer companies. The dot.com bust in 2001 made jobs scarce in her field so she retrained in massage therapy and now practices in Palo Alto and is employed at a local spa. As a teenager Cathy studied with Pat Frey of Hillsborough and received encouragement to continue in school. Later she used design and illustration skills while employed at various computer companies including Apple Computer, Inc., Synopsys, Inc., and 3Com Corporation, Inc. Local artists she studied with include Catherine Bazak, Bart Depalma, Jim Smyth, Anita Hampton, Rebecca Alzonfon and Camille Przewodek. Nationally recognized artists include Kevin MacPherson, David Leffel, Sherrie McGraw and Morgan Samuel Price. Since 2001 Cathy has focused on color in landscape painting. This ‘colorist school’ emerged out of the Cape Cod School in Providence, Massachusetts, started by William Merritt Chase and continued by Charles Hawthorne and later Henry Henche. "I draw my inspiration from my painting colleagues, nature and writings of Robert Henri and John Carlson." A resident of the San Francisco Bay Area, Cathy has shown locally at the Pacific Art League, Palo Alto; Menlo Art League, Menlo Park; Art Academy, San Francisco, and William Lester Gallery, Point Reyes Station. She is in private collections in San Francisco, Portland Oregon and Portola Valley. Exhibitions and Honors: Member |
