The quality of photos are not so good here, but the original quality is as good as any other professionally taken photos. Because of the limitation of my Web site, I chose to use compressed images in GIF or JPEG format.

July 4th is the independence day for the US. Takumi and I celebrate this day to cheer the US women's national soccer team played against Brazil team in our home town, Palo Alto. The site was the Stanford Stadium. We had a shopping to get a couple of new mamory cards for my new Olympus digital camera for the occasion and parked our Honda Civic in shady parking lot, and walked to the stadium.
There were so many soccer fans including Brazilian fans in their yellow uniforms. But for the obvious reasons, the fans rooting for the US team outnumbers Brazilian counterparts easily.
The ticket was $30 a piece, but for this special occasion, it was OK. The large stadium was almost full with over 73,000 spectators. And a well-known local cheerleader Crazy George was among them with a loud handy drum as usual. He lead the loud call of "U-S-A, U-S-A," and "1, 2, 123" hand clapping, between east side and west side of the stadium.<
Just like to respond to the cheers from the crowds, the US team got a beautiful heading goal after a corner kick right in front of us around 5 minutes into the game. Then about 10 minutes to go in the second half, the US team got a free kick because of the Brazilian player's penalty in the penalty area in front of Brazilian goalie.
The final score was 2-0 and send the US team to Pasadina next weekend for the championship final against China who beat Norway rather easily.
Oh, I almost forget to add a link to a photo from the game.

Kay Sandberg has been hosting Caterina, a daughter of her friend in Italy, this summer, and we went to San Francisco with her, along with Jona, a long time friend of Takumi. First, we crossed the Golden Gate Bridge to see the city from the vista point in Marin County side right next to the bridge.
Photo of Kay and the four teenagers including Emika, Kay took all others.
Then we went to a new land mark in San Francisco, called Metreon, right next to Moscone Convention Center right at south of Market Street in downtown. It's a high-tech amusement site with showrooms and gift shop built by Sony and Miscosoft, and sponsored by 7 large corporations. There are 3D movie theatre, Sony Playstation-based arcade game center, and other movie theatre and "educational" area based on the well-known children's books.
It's basically highly commercialized and expensive place for not-so-impressive entertainment. If you don't try any theatres, you can visit and see around the shops and showrooms, etc. free of charge.
I managed to take a picture from sandwitch lunch before getting into the building, and an "Italian?" dinner in the same building.
Kay's sister Stacey Martin and her family, Dan and Jared, joind us before getting into the Metreon and having a good conversation at the dinner, as usual. It's always fun to get together with Martins. June 27, 1999
After a Paly basketball game, I took Takumi and his friend from the team, Nick and Aaron to 3COM Park on Candlestick Point in San Francisco for a Giants-Dodgers baseball game. It's a beautiful day and it took a little bit longer to get there, but we made the core of the game from 3rd inning and stayed till 8th inning. The Giants won the game by 8-7 after leading earlier by 7-2.
It's always fun to watch a game at a stadium, but this was the first time in years for me. The last time I enjoyed a live Giants game was probably close to 10 years ago, when I watched it with Takumi in an executive box which the company I worked for at the tame reserved for entertaining their guests. I "entertained" a group of Japanese guest, as well as being entertained by the game.
